Kidney Transplantation: Past, Present, and Future

In Bangladesh we have about 20 years of experience in kidney transplantation. 1988 kidney transplant first started in Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU). Recently several other institutes have started kidney transplantation with success. We have so many patients but we don’t have the setup and proper man power to do it in such a large scale. Here are some statistics :

Kidney Foundation has been transplanting kidneys for the last six months. And so far about 30 patients have got their 15 days package services. The cost of a single transplantation is worth Tk 225,000.

With an execellent service, BSMMU transplanted kidneys to 306 patients so far. They initiated a package of Tk 160,000 for kidney transplantation that includes 14 days hospital staying.

At BIRDEM, about 30 patients availed this transplantation services of which the cost was a little bit higher than others. They charged Tk 4 lakhs for the package.
